Jewelry Care

Following are instructions on how to care for your precious jewellery. Always protect your jewellery from sharp blows, scratching, chemicals, sunlight and heat/cold.

  • Always store your jewellery in a soft lined box or a protected area.
  • Keep them from rubbing against together.
  • Your jewellery will age and tarnish naturally. If you want to keep your pieces in mint condition, clean jewellery regularly, using a professional jewellery cleaning product and always follow manufacturer's instructions.
  • Be aware of tarnish which may occur as a result of oxidisation, which is caused by the interaction of silver or gold plated jewellery with certain elements such as oxygen or sulphur and certain acids.
  • Do not go swimming wearing your jewellery, as chlorine in swimming pools can damage all metals and will erode gold jewellery.

GOLD  Add a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid to a bowl filled with two cups of warm water. Drop your gold pieces into the solution and let them soak for about 15 minutes. Lift a piece of jewellery out of the solution and gently scrub it with a soft-bristle toothbrush to remove any dirt lodged in nooks and crannies.

GOLD FILLED  Usually made with 14k gold and a base metal of brass or copper, with reasonable care it will not peel or flake, and should last as long as solid 14k gold jewellery. It is safe for most people with sensitive skin.
To Clean: Although 14 karat Gold Filled jewellery will not tarnish, it will get dirty. The oils from your skin transfer to the metal and need to be washed off periodically. The easiest way to clean your handmade chain is to scrub it with an old soft toothbrush and shampoo or dish soap. Rinse well, pat dry, and air dry.

GOLD PLATED  Gold Plating will wear off over time - to have your jewellery replated, email our customer service to receive a quote. info@outofoffice.la
Use non-abrasive cleaning materials when cleaning your jewellery. Frequently clean in a mild dishwashing liquid diluted in water.

STERLING SILVER Cleaning silver jewellery is best done with a professional jewellery cleaning product. Thoroughly dry your silver jewellery after exposure to water. Keep silver jewellery away from harsh chemicals like household cleaning fluids as they create abrasions and reduce the lustre of the metal.
For heavier tarnish, mix a paste of three parts baking soda to one part water. Wet the silver and apply the cleaner with a soft, lint-free cloth (not paper towels, which can scratch)
